Visa Requirements
When traveling to Ghana, most visitors are required to obtain a visa prior to arrival. Here are the detailed steps and information for obtaining a visa:
Visa Types: Ghana offers different types of visas depending on the purpose of your visit. For a short stay primarily for our wedding celebrations, the most suitable visa type for you would be the tourist visa. This visa allows visitors to explore the country, experience its culture, and enjoy leisure activities.
Visa Application: To apply for a Ghanaian tourist visa, you will need to complete an online application form. While forms were traditionally obtained from the embassy, almost all applications are now processed through the official digital portals of the Ghanaian embassy or consulate in your home country.
Visa Websites for UK, US & UAE:
Required Documents: You should prepare the necessary documents for your visa application, which typically include:
-
Valid passport with at least six months of remaining validity and blank visa pages.
-
Completed online application form with accurate and up-to-date information.
-
Two recent passport-sized photographs (digital upload and physical copies).
-
Proof of travel arrangements, such as a flight itinerary and hotel reservations (or our wedding invitation/accommodation details).
-
Yellow Fever vaccination certificate (Mandatory for entry into Ghana for all travelers over 9 months old).
-
For UAE Residents: A copy of your Emirates ID and an NOC letter from your employer/sponsor.
Visa Fees: Visa fees for the tourist visa vary depending on the country you are applying from. You should check the website of the Ghanaian embassy or consulate in your home country for the current fees and acceptable digital payment methods.
Application Submission: Once you have completed the online form and gathered your documents, you will submit your application. Some regions, like the UK, may require you to mail your physical passport or visit a Premium Application Centre for biometrics.
Processing Time: Visa processing times vary, so it is advisable for you to apply at least 4–6 weeks in advance of your travel dates. The embassy will provide an estimated processing time, which typically ranges from a few days to two weeks.
Passport Return: After processing, your passport with the visa will be returned to you via secure courier or collection. Please ensure you keep it in a safe place while traveling.
Additional Requirements: Depending on your nationality and specific circumstances, additional requirements may apply. Make sure you check with the Ghanaian embassy in your home country for any specific updates as your travel date approaches.
Travel Insurance: While not a visa requirement, it is strongly recommended that you obtain travel insurance that covers medical expenses and unforeseen circumstances during your stay in Ghana.
